Message from Superintendent Chris Downing

On May 14, 2021, Maine Department of Education (DOE) updated the PK-12 and Adult Education Public Health Guidance with some significant changes that will impact Searsport Elementary School and Searsport District Middle High School. Effective immediately:
  • Mask requirements and social distancing requirements are no longer in place for outdoor classes. Per Maine DOE’s Coordinated School Health department, outdoor classes means “anything outdoors.” This means students outside for classes, breaks, and recess no longer need to maintain social distancing or wear masks. Students and staff may continue to wear masks and maintain distance if they choose to.

  • Adult distancing requirements have been removed. This means adult to adult and adult to student distancing requirements have been removed.

  • Students age five and above are required to wear a mask/face covering that covers their nose and mouth when indoors. Updated on (4/28/21)

  • Eating and drinking still requires 6' distancing for all.

  • Distancing related to music went from 14 feet to 6 feet.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and our schools.

Sincerely,

Chris Downing
Superintendent of Schools
