School Health Coordinator

The Role of a School Health Coordinator

The position of School Health Coordinator is central to a successfully coordinated and quality school health program. The School Health Coordinator provides leadership and guidance to promote effective school health policies, practices, and programs including overseeing comprehensive school health education curriculum, instruction and assessment.


A Coordinated Approach to School Health:

  • Helps children and youth to grow up healthier and ready to learn
  • Makes effective and efficient use of existing resources
  • Achieves sustainable, positive changes for schools, staff, and students through education, policy and environmental strategies


The functions of a School Health Coordinator include:

  • Increasing school and community awareness and understanding of the important of Coordinated School Health Programs
  • Convening and facilitating the School Health Leadership Team and School Health Advisory Committee
  • Developing and implementing an action work plan for coordinating school health programs
  • Facilitating access to resources for school health, including grant writing
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of the K-HS health education curriculum and student assessment aligned with the Maine Health Education Standards
  • Identifying the needs within the district
