Housing instability, food insecurity, or clothing needs

RSU 20 is committed to assisting our school population to access community resources. We will help with housing information, local free food deliveries, clothing needs and emotional support.

Housing

The McKinney-Vento Act aims to minimize disruptions in attending school for students without adequate housing (fmi: McKinney-Vento Education in Maine).  It provides rights and services to children and youth experiencing homelessness to allow those children to remain enrolled in school. This includes:

  • Sharing a house due to loss of housing or economic hardship
  • Staying in a motel, trailer park, or campground because you have no place to stay
  • Staying in shelters or transitional housing
  • Sleeping in cars, parks, abandoned buildings, or substandard housing
