Housing instability, food insecurity, or clothing needs
The McKinney-Vento Act aims to minimize disruptions in attending school for students without adequate housing (fmi: McKinney-Vento Education in Maine). It provides rights and services to children and youth experiencing homelessness to allow those children to remain enrolled in school. This includes:
- Sharing a house due to loss of housing or economic hardship
- Staying in a motel, trailer park, or campground because you have no place to stay
- Staying in shelters or transitional housing
- Sleeping in cars, parks, abandoned buildings, or substandard housing
